Step 1: Where do I find my PNR number?
Your 10-digit PNR number is: (a) On the top-left of a physical counter ticket. (b) In the IRCTC booking confirmation SMS (subject line starts with "PNR:"). (c) In the IRCTC email confirmation. (d) In the IRCTC app under "My Bookings". The PNR looks like: 2XXXXXXXXX or 6XXXXXXXXX.

How often should I check PNR status?
For WL or RAC tickets, check at: 7 days before departure (initial position), 48 hours before (movement begins), 24 hours before (Tatkal adjustments), 4 hours before (chart preparation — final status). CNF tickets need not be checked repeatedly.
