Tatkal Seat Availability — Check Before Booking

Before rushing to book Tatkal on IRCTC at 10:00 AM, check whether Tatkal seats are actually available on your train and class using our Seat Availability tool. This saves you the frustration of competing in the Tatkal rush only to find no seats. Tatkal quota exists on most express and superfast trains but not all. Some trains may have Tatkal available in AC classes but not Sleeper, or vice versa.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I check if Tatkal is available on my train?

Use our Seat Availability tool. Enter the train number, journey date, from and to stations, and select class. Look for "TQWL" or "RL/TQWL" status — if Tatkal seats are shown, the quota exists. If you see a confirmed number next to Tatkal quota, seats are available.

When does Tatkal booking open?

Tatkal opens at 10:00 AM one day before the journey date for AC classes (1A, 2A, 3A, CC, EC). For Sleeper class, Tatkal opens at 11:00 AM one day before departure.

Why was there no Tatkal quota on my train?

Not all trains have Tatkal quota. Tatkal is typically available on express, superfast, and mail trains. Local passenger trains, MEMU, DEMU, and some heritage trains may not have Tatkal quota. Also, Tatkal quota may not exist for very short routes.

How fast does Tatkal fill up?

Very fast — often within 2–10 minutes of opening (10:00 AM for AC, 11:00 AM for SL). Popular trains on busy routes fill Tatkal quota in under 5 minutes. Being ready with IRCTC pre-filled passenger details and payment at exactly 9:58 AM is critical.

What if Tatkal is also full?

If Tatkal is exhausted, consider: (1) Premium Tatkal — higher price but available through a dynamic pricing model. (2) Different train on the same day. (3) Different travel date. (4) Rethinking travel class — SL Tatkal may be available when 3A is full. Check all options on our Seat Availability tool.
