What is RLWL in Indian Railways?
RLWL (Remote Location Waitlist) is assigned when your boarding station is an intermediate "remote location" station on the route. Indian Railways allocates a specific quota for such stations, and the RLWL draws only from cancellations in that quota pool.
Is RLWL harder to confirm than GNWL?
Generally yes. RLWL draws from a smaller pool of cancellations (segment-specific) compared to GNWL which benefits from all route cancellations. However, on some routes with fewer RLWL bookings, even higher RLWL numbers can confirm.
Can I change my RLWL ticket to avoid the waitlist?
You can cancel your RLWL ticket and rebook on a different train or date with better availability. You could also try booking from the train's origin station to get a GNWL ticket with better confirmation chances.
What happens if RLWL doesn't confirm?
E-tickets (IRCTC bookings) remaining on RLWL after chart preparation are automatically cancelled and fully refunded. Counter tickets must be cancelled manually before departure to receive a refund.
