Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find my train's current location?

Open our Live Train Status tool. Enter the 5-digit train number from your ticket. The result shows: the last station the train departed, time of departure from that station, current delay (if any), and expected times at all upcoming stations. Data refreshes every few minutes from Indian Railways.

How do I get my train number?

Your train number is on your ticket (top area, 5 digits, e.g., 12951). It is also in your IRCTC booking confirmation. Or search by train name in our Train Search tool to find the number.

Why is my train not showing on live tracking?

Possible reasons: the train has not started yet (status updates after origin departure), the train number was entered incorrectly, live data is temporarily unavailable from Indian Railways, or it is a train type with limited GPS coverage (some local trains).

How accurate is the train location data?

Data is from Indian Railways' NTES system and is typically 5–15 minutes behind actual position on mainline routes. Accuracy is generally good for Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Mail/Express trains on major corridors.

Can I see a map of where my train is?

Our Live Train Status tool shows station-by-station progress rather than a real-time map. This is because Indian Railways' public API provides station-level data. For a map view, the IRCTC Rail Connect app has a GPS map feature for some trains.
